This guy -Richard Turner-is incredible least of all as he is blind since 9 years old! His card handling is something else, his stuff is mostly gambling themed sleights. Here he is on Fool Us.

Cool. I used to do a card trick where you picked a card 'at random' from a deck. You would then write the name of the card on a piece of paper, fold and burn the paper in an ash tray. I would take the ashes and rub them on the back of my hand, and the name of the card would appear on my hand...
OK, I am a rare visitor to this part of the forum what with not knowing nothing about magic but I just saw this and I want to see if my guess of how it's done is right (assuming anyone is allowed to tell me)
A guy picks (and signs) a card as Penn (or Teller) is fripping the deck by saying...
March issue, it's called "The Third Card."
Effect: The two jokers are isolated in the card case. Any named selection materializes between them.

For anyone who's had their tricks published, what was your reaction to the write-up?
Now having read the article...
Is Lennart Green the greatest card magician ever?

Has anyone seen the new Bicycle deck? I just picked one up from Walgreens. It cost a bit more than most decks, but as long as the print stays on it, it could be a life-long deck. It's as smooth as a Bee deck, but if you didn't wash it, it could remain as sticky as you need it. I'm in love.
If...
I just did a successful ambitious card routing to some some other bar-patrons sitting here at the bar (wifi is cool). Anyway, I finished the routine but was a bit put off by a guy who looked cynical, like he knew or saw exactly what I was doing. It disturbed me a bit, until he took the deck...
I won't mention the name of the card technique since the name is a bit of a spoiler. The initials are DL and it is very very common.
I have trouble making it look natural and doing it quickly enough. Any advice?
PM's welcome.
For anyone interested....
I will bring my copy of Harry Lorayne's Close Up Card Magic to TAM V. It's the hard back Tannen's version.
I will exchange it for the recipient relinquishing his/her right to chuck rotten fruit and vegetables at me as I do a card trick. Alternatively, you can buy me a...
Not a magician, and not looking for 'secrets' as it were.
If I had a deck of 40 red cards and 20 black cards that you had never seen before, would it be possible for you to shuffle the deck in front of me so that the 20 black cards were in the bottom half of the deck?
(Without being caught.;)...
Colm Mulcahy, who writes the "Card Colm" (geddit?) for the Mathematical Association of America tells me that the latest one has an interview with Martin Gardner (92 today) and a card trick based on an idea of his.

I was pleased to see a search of this forum turn up a number of recommendations of "The Royal Road to Card Magic," which I bought in a little antique shop in quaint Colonial Beach, Virginia, last Sunday. I didn't know if the contents were still useful almost sixty years after its original...

Nothing original here; it's really a combination of two fairly well-known principles in the magician world (especially with the publication of Bannon's new book). In actual performance for real...
I was going to post this to the Cafe, but I'll do a test run here:
-No Gaffes/Duplicates/cards from different colored deck. That is to say, a truly normal deck of cards.
-Impromptu: can be performed from a shuffled deck in use.
-No Table
-No Counting cards
-No Spelling
-The performer...
Argh, this board is dying. Here's the type of thread that usually generates responses, and hopefully invigorates interest. Favorite card trick.
I say "Red Hot Mama"
Effect (generic).
Spectator chooses a card from a blue-backed deck. She remembers and returns the card to its home. After a...
Here is an effect that I'm working on (mentalism with cards)
Spectator freely picks any card from a deck. Card is memorized and placed aside. Another deck is taken by spectator and shuffled any amount of times, and then given to magician who gives the deck a single legitimate riffle shuffle...
I freely admit that I want; nay, need; to know how the card trick that Randi and the Astronaut did was done.
Just imagine how disappointing a Sherlock Holmes story would be if the solution to the puzzle were never revealed...
Well, the same goes (in my book) for magic shows/tricks. I know that...
I bought this book a little while ago. The tricks are rather old and not extremely impressive since they're geared towards the beginner level (no sleight-of-hand).
For those of you own the book, what are your favorite tricks? In all it contains over 150 tricks, and I'd rather not plow through...
My renewed interest in magic has pushed me into considering developing a routine with one of these decks. Which would you recommend for a person of intermediate skills and abilities? I'll probably end up getting both, but for right now I'm leaning toward a stripper deck. Thoughts? Suggestions?
What do magicians think of plastic playing cards?
I don't mean pasteboard cards with a plastic coating. I mean solid plastic cards, such as those made by Kem.
Are they too slick for fanning, etc?
Does anyone have any suggestions for a non-magician who would like to learn some basic card manipulation?
By that I mean things like fancy shuffles, fanning, etc. Not things like palming, sleights, false shuffles and forcing.
Any books and/or videos which are good for a beginner in this...
