With a rather illustrous history of sidelining biometrical systems, a German hacker known as starbug now tricked the iris recognition system of the Samsung S8 smartphone with rather primitive methods (see video).
Must be a relieve for everyone having to fear Russian hackers or US border police...
Had a thought after reading a thread about security of data - how come biometrics seem to have disappeared in personal computing? I remember we had a time when fingerprint scanners were being built into keyboards and the like.
Did it simply not work or people didn't like it?
Sure it's a bit of a gimmick, but I quite liked the idea :)
Hopefully it will highlight some of the absurdities of the current obsession with biometric data. I hope they manage to get some prints :D
