I don't know if this has been posted anywhere yet (or is even the right place) but I've just come across this book coming out soon:
The atheist's Guide to Christmas
Don't know much about it yet except the description:
I mean, everyone starts out as an atheist, so what in god's name, so to speak, happened to them to make them turn into a Christian?
What happened to them to make them hate God reality so much.
So much, in fact, that they believe the world and normal life in it is evil, in and of itself. It...
Hello,:D
I have been lurking around this site for a little more than a year I believe, but never had the courage to sign up and become a member because I felt less intelligent than most of the posters even though I could follow most of the conversations (or arguments) posted. Thanks to some...
This is possibly one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.
Our Christian friends, what marvellous creatures:

I laughed my face off.
Alex.
Time and again here I hear people coming up with the old 'Atheism is simply a lack of belief in God(s)' definition.
In the thread entitled 'Percentage of atheists should be higher today than ever?' it's doing the rounds again.
Putting aside the ridiculous consequence that this makes bricks...
It's one thing when a religious person is going through some pain, and asks an atheist for their prayers because they don't realize they're talking to an atheist.
Then there's the real classy version of this move, when they ask for your prayers because they know you're an atheist:
Note that...
My first "new topic"...
I'm really condensing this argument here as I've been writing pages on the matter.
I've recently been looking into the idea of God and him giving humans free will. I initially was thinking, and I came up with the idea that, if he is omniscient, than this contradicts...
My first ever comment for any of my YouTube videos! I am so proud that someone took the time to post. I only hope it isn't spam. It feels so special, I only wonder what his post means...

According to the latest Pew Research Center Poll: Religion in America
21% of Atheists believe in God, of which 6% believe it to be a personal God and 12% believe it to be an impersonal force.
Since I don't have 15 posts in yet, I can't link to the poll results but here is where it is located...
A couple of years ago I got into a conversation with a Mormon friend of mine about religion & morality (I'm an atheist). When he argued that religion was a component necessary for morality, I answered him with the Euthyphro Dilemma:

I basically...
Hello everyone :)
I just wanted to take some advice on a really uncomfortable situation happening at work:
I recently started working at a retail store and there's a really big group of employees. We took a training about a week ago and it was clearly stated that there would be NO discussion...
I feel as if I'm one of the only ones here since it feels as if the fundie Christians are the only ones who speak out against it.
First let me make some very important distinctions.
Huge difference between "immoral" and "should be illegal"
Don't believe me?

My wife came back from the library yesterday bringing the book "There is a God", by Antony Flew. It is sub-titled "How the world's most notorious atheist changed his mind".
My first reaction was "what? Dawkins changed his mind?". Then I realised that the world's most notorious atheist was...
Excellent books on Divine knowledge, for all the levels of spiritual aspirants including scientists and atheist

My grandmother passed away today, and by the looks of it my grandfather will soon follow behind. The interesting thing is that this is the first time I've had to deal with death since becoming atheist. It is a depressing feeling. My grandmother died alone in the hospital completely unexpected...
I'm an atheist at the university of aberdeen, in Scotland, and today I just realised that the motto of our university is:
Initium sapientiae timor domini (The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom)
What! That is the most outrageous motto in the world. I am going to write to the...
A fairly old thread I noticed recently asked "What is is like to be a non-believer" and I would just like to illuminate on the point.
Many people can remember, as a child, being afraid of the dark. It was always something just under the bed or in the closet. When the demons came for me I...
It's just struck me what a bizarre word 'atheism' (and its derivatives) is. Atheism: disbelief in the existence of a god.
Are there many other words that relate to disbelief in something? It would seem to me to suggest that the word 'atheism' was probably devised by god worshipers, presumably...
In the UK we here a great deal about multi-culturalism and tolerance of other peoples religions and beliefs.
Depending on where you look, about 15% of the UK population are none believers.
Why should it only be the non-believers that are tolerant of something that they don't believe in...
This is one of the reasons why I love youtube.
Why does faith deserve respect?
ETA: Short answer: It doesn't.

Has this been posted before? If so, apologies, but here it is again, regardless. :)
Now, you can show the world where you stand on the God issue:
You can get shirts with a big letter 'A' on them. In red, of course.

I consider myself somewhat of an athiest, and I'm just wondering what the general view of athiests is by the usual TAMies? As I'd like to go without being totally shot down or anything :)
From what I understand, the argument goes something like this:
1. Belief in god is a part of human nature
2. (scene missing)
3. Therefore, if you don't believe in god, you must be depressed
From what I've been able to determine, 2 is supposed to be "If you are missing a part of human nature...
My son (turns 5 tomorrow) has a best friend, let's call him "Johnny". Johnny is in the care of his grandparents who are real church-people. Much of the childrens liturature around their household is bible related in one way or another. Johnny's a really sweet kid, and he and my son get along...

Linked video and its parts draws a number of points against atheism. Firstly, it can be very dogmatic, secondly, like religion it relies on some source for information about the universe, and thirdly it is too much relying on one element of human...
Hey I just wanted to point out one particular Youtube user who posts quite a few videos every week regarding his stance on atheism.
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=brettkeane
I'm a subscriber to his videos, I find them fascinating, even if he is a little blunt. He also answers his critics...
Evolutionists have convinced the scientific community that not only does evolution occur, which is now pretty much indisputable...but that everything came from one thing.
If they did not believe this, this would then throw the entire theory into disarray...that there was not this forking off...
And if you're a true skeptic, there must be a willingness to change your mind about god if presented with new / proper evidence.
So, what type of new / proper evidence would be needed for you to abandon atheism?
The problem is that many of us likely require something extraordinary, like god...
Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Christians think human life is sacred because their religion tells them there are connections between it's creation and divine purpose(s).
In your own words (no copy and paste), why does an atheist think an individual human life and life in general is sacred...
