Eleven killed in school shooting in Sweden, one of them the lone perpetrator

So far, the motive is unknown. The (suspected) killer was also unknown by the police. He was approximately 35 years old. The weapon was a hunting rifle for which he had a license.
The school is for adults, so there are no children among the victims.

What we know about the suspected perpetrator in Örebro

It is the worst school shooting in Sweden ever, probably in Scandinavia, too.
 
It's an adult education centre, and judging by the witnesses some of them appear to be perhaps 'immigrants' (for want of a better less emotive word) there to pass key exams, perhaps Swedish for citizenship. This is just my speculation.

The guy in a fit of suicidal hopelessness decided he was going to take people out with him. Police say there is no ideological motive but it would appear this guy saw these students all congregated in one area at a particular time as an easy target.

I also think the sheer amount of publicity these mass killers get encourages copycats*, so I hope he doesn't get too much personal coverage.

*We had one woman in Finland recently ex-military, armed up to the gills with guns and ammo; turned up at a school of children, right up to the door of the middle range ones, and it was only due to a chance phone call from an ex- that she changed her mind at the last minute. She got four years and was stripped of her military title. She had the usual 'manifesto' video and material eulogising the usual high school killers. She appealed her sentence on the grounds she didn't go through with it but my gosh what a dangerous cold-blooded individual to even consider such a thing. Hopefully, the sentence will be increased.

So of course, now social media is reduced to wondering what race/ethnicity the killer was. Suggestions include Syrian, Eritrean and Swedish, with the last being cited as the most likely.

It's a pretty pass that whenever there is a heinous crime, the first thing people want to know is what ethnicity is (a) the killer and (b) the victim/s? Only once they know those details can they decide how much grief/anger/condolences/sorrow to feel.

It's not unlike what Breivik did on Utøya in 2011 - except that he killed the people he blamed for allowing immigrants into Norway.

He was supposedly highly reclusive and had been very socially withdrawn from a young age. Had little to no income. There are reports he targetted obvious 'non-Swedes' sparing the white students. But yeah, I think the problem with the far-right rhetoric that seeps into the popular press and media is felt personally by some individuals. This guy's anti-social feeling came out expressed as hatred towards a subgroup.

Breivik certainly went to Utoye [_sp] to target members of a socialist youth camp.

Well, we'll find out in the coming days whether this chap had the usual 'manifesto'.

Well, that is one interpretation of what someone yells. It has not been confirmed by the authorities what is being yelled, and now that they have put a subtitle on it, that is what you hear.

At this stage, even the identity of the suspected shooter has not been confirmed by the police, so there is a lot of speculation going around.

BBC are saying that the police declined to confirm media reports naming Andersson as the suspect.

Orebro police say they have identified the suspect but would "not publish his name yet, due to the investigation".

The police has not named the suspected killer yet, they have said in a press conference this morning that they will run some DNA testing before confirming.
 
Just thinking out loud, here... why is this in Global/International? Shouldn't it be in Europe? Or if a school shooting should be here, shouldn't all the American ones be here too?

Socially withdrawn ≠ anti-social.
This guys racist hate came out expressed as the murder of immigrants.

Right...and could still shoot at slower moving, or non moving, targets.

Eta: try playing paintball sometime. A fast moving target is crazy easy to miss. One frozen like a deer in headlights is much easier to hit
