Why is the Queen such a bad public speaker?

Just listened to a snippet of our most successful social security scrounger giving one of her many public speeches.

This woman has probably given more public speeches to more people than anyone in history - and yet her delivery is still absolutely crap! How?!

Seems like something that could happen if you are given a position simply because of who your parents are.

She has a safe seat?

Historically, monarchs weren't supposed to be great orators, were they? They had to craft their messages with some care, but good delivery was not really a part of the package. More important was to use words that sounded regal.

After the coming of TV and radio, presentation became a tad more important, but some of the royals resisted the notion of being in league with actors or pitchmen or base politicians. That said, there are some who have worked on their skills, and some who have not worked quite so hard.

Queen Elizabeth is not a great orator, but neither is she awful. She is, however, somewhat old-fashioned. In particular, she remains largely dependent upon a script and does not try to make it look as if she speaks unscripted.

Yes, I think the point is that the Queen has never wanted to be anything as vulgar as a showperson.

If you want constant larffs and razzle dazzle you'll have to do with Jim Davidson.

This is the outcome I'd expect when titles are inherited instead of earned. As Thomas Paine pointed out, a hereditary head of state makes as much sense as a hereditary mathematician or poet-laureate.

Well that idiot did have poor breeding.

No need to express emotion in what she says. The topics are not emotional. It is easy to work out what words she is saying. Her delivery is at a reasonable pace. So what is the problem?

You know, if you hate the idea of the Royals getting a stippend from the Government, how about going back to the old system where they got the £230.9 million a year returns from the Royal Estates and nothing from the Government?

I watched all three speaches live on BBC America and felt that she did a very nice job. Considering the magnitude of the occasion, and that I'm not a big fan a speeches, she got an extra kudo from me for keeping it short.

Newt Gingrich gave a longer speech after losing one the recent primaries he expected to win.

Given she's insanely old, and even older-fashioned, I think our Dear Lady Bess does fine. The reason American leaders are such good public speakers is because they're trying to trick you into voting for them.

Frankly, I'd rather trust a leader who's dull and frank than a charming charismatic one, because the latter is almost certainly trying to sell you something you don't want.

No thanks as my dear old granny used to say two wrongs don't a right make but a hobnailed boot to the head always makes you right.
