Trump and money

Anyone watch Margin Call? Any billionaire who tries to sell an on-paper billions' worth of assets will be a millionaire by the time the sale is over.

I bet there are maybe two or three people in the world who actually have a billion dollars or more in readily available cash instruments.

New York Times: Trump could owe more than $100 million in taxes as a result of IRS inquiry.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/11/politics/donald-trump-taxes-irs-report

from the link:

The 2008 claim resulted in Trump reporting losses as high as $651 million for the year, and there is no indication it drew an IRS challenge, the outlets reported.

what the ACTUAL **** ???

the IRS decided not to challenge a more than half billion loss?

Even if the estimate had been off only by 10%, the increased revenue would have been in the millions, plenty enough to make it worth litigating over.

I think the scandal is not that Trump double-dipped, it's that the IRS turns a blind eye when it comes to big sums.

It's what happens when you allow the accountants to write the tax laws.

Fast-forward 6 months, and Trump has been selling Trump-branded gold sneakers, bibles, and perfume.

How's his net worth now? Google says Forbes and Bloomberg say he's worth $5-6 billion.

He'll be earning $400,000 a year as El Prez, but will that role curtail or boost his personal income? And if so, how?

Given that he's allegedly worth that much, why is he still involved in such penny ante stuff?

A person who is that well off wouldn't be putting his name on minimally prfitable scams run by other people.

I don't believe that Trump is anywhere near as rich as he claims but you don't get rich by

a) Spending your own money
b) Passing up any opportunity to make more money

He's a grifter so he'll take every opportunity to line his own pockets and dodge any obligations to pay out.

imo the reason why not just trump but all these guys do what wouldn't seem like it's worth the time spent is there's a matter of liquidity and expenses.

There's lots of other people he owes money to besides the IRS. Overseas debts, shady dealings, offers he can't refuse, etc. This penny-ante sneakers and guitars and stuff is probably earning just enough to pay the interest on these bigger loans.

This seems most likely, not to mention paying the steady stream of lawyers.
